Need To Edit Your Closet?

Hello Beautiful Ladies!! There is something you may not know about your closet…but your clothes need BREATHING room!!! They told me ūüôā

No matter the size of your closet, you should be able to see every item without rummaging! Really…you should! A good rule of thumb that I use is: Consider donating or consigning anything you haven’t¬†worn in the past year.

But sometimes, we can be at a loss for what we should keep and what we should toss.¬† So, I’m going to share the very same tips that I will be using tonight on my closet…Let’s get to work girls!

What to Keep:

  1. ¬†Wardrobe Basics: These include your best winter jacket, favorite blazer and “still in high-quality” staples.
  2. Event Dressing: You should always have a stunning LBD (little black dress) or pantsuit that fits you like a glove.

3.  On-trend Items: These are the fun pieces that give your wardrobe personality and help bring your basics back to life.

4. Investment Splurges:¬† We all have at least one piece we’ve splurged on.¬† Whether it was an impulse shoe, or the leather jacket that was a must-have,¬† we all need confidence-boosters in our closet! (See our blog¬†on Why¬†Confidence is always in)

5.¬† And lastly, we have the “Sentimentals”:¬† This might be your first Designer handbag or your grandma’s ring, they’ll always be in style and have a great story to boot.

Now, we have come to the harder part… what to say goodbye to…

  1. ¬†Get rid of anything that has tags and you haven’t¬†worn it in the last 6 months, odds are you won’t.
  2. You really don’t¬†need multiples of specific items. Unless you regularly use a uniform, you don’t need 5 of the same things in your closet.
  3. Why keep items that just don’t¬†fit right. You will feel better knowing that all the things in your closet are comfortable¬†and actually allow you to breathe. Send the rest to consignment or donation, depending on the condition.
  4. Well loved items can be let go, really! If your favorite tee has seen better days and it makes you look like 90’s grunge, let it go and gain some needed space in your closet. No one needs that style coming back again ūüôā

Okay, these are the tips I will be using, hope they help you gain control of your space again and feel like the empowered woman you are!

Enjoy your closet cleanse!

Survival Guide to Shopping with your Mother

ImageFor some of us shopping with our mother is a pleasant experience filled with cherished mother-daughter moments. For others though, the experience can be closest compared to a painful bikini wax with irritation that lingers for days.

With vacation days upon us, these shopping trips may become more frequent so below we have provided you with a brief survival guide to cope with mother-daughter shopping season. Happy shopping!

Mother-Daughter Shopping Survival Guide

1. Bring a shopping list. If you are out shopping with the purpose of buying items you need, take a list. Share the items on the list with your mom to speed up the pointless looking around that may occur to either of you. This will save time and frustration for both of you ladies.

2. Be firm, but pleasant. If you are NOT out shopping with the purpose of buying items you need, set a budget. Some wonderful lovingmoms think you look beautiful in everything and somehow make you feel certain purchases are justified when deep down you know the item will most likely hang in your closet until you just decide to consign it at Vintage Vogue. A budget will allow you to keep firm but pleasant because the fact that you didn’t purchase the mom-approved item will be all because of a budget and not that it just wasn’t your taste.

3. ¬†Humor one another and try on items recommended by your mother, even if you know there isn’t enough money in the world they could pay you to wear it. Your mother dressed you for however many years (stop holding it against her!) and still feels she knows what looks good on you and sometimes mother does know best. OR you both might just get a good laugh and your mom will get to know your taste even more. A win-win!

4. Savor the moment. We never know what tomorrow will bring, so if you are blessed enough to have a mother with whom to shop..enjoy it! Find out what tends to frustrate you about the experience and prepare what you might do or say to avoid any unpleasant situations. If you find yourself getting impatient, separate yourself if only for a few moments.

Always remember, compromising and patience usually produces a pleasant experience!

“What Not to Wear” Fashion Saving Acronym

what-not-to-wearWhile¬†watching a “What Not to Wear” re-run the other day, I¬†heard them say such a perfectly useful acronym and decided it was too good not to share.

The acronym is fairly simple and obvious but it’s such a good thing to keep in mind while shopping for clothing, especially while shopping by yourself when you don’t have access to a second opinion or the second opinion you do have around is not exactly trustworthy!

B: Body appropriate Does this item really flatter your body type? Think back to similar items you’ve purchased in the past, did it photograph well? Also, use the mirrors that allow you to see the back of you as well as the front and make sure you can sit and breathe comfortably in.

A: Age appropriate There’s no need to obsess over this one even though most of us do. It’s really a matter of comfort. Do you feel comfortable sporting this potential trend? If you do, it’s most likely age appropriate and when in doubt, do without!

S: Situation appropriate Pretty self-explanatory, right? ūüôā

E: Expense appropriate ¬†CPW (cost per wear) When making a decision, take into consideration the wear you will receive from the item AND what you currently have in your closet that you can coordinate with the new piece. For example, don’t be afraid to bite the bullet with your basic black skirt that you know you’ll wear until the threads fall apart, but think twice before buying anything that’s too expensive and flashy that will be very noticeable if worn frequently.

There you have it folks, B.A.S.E- a truly useful shopping tool! Put it into practice during your next shopping expedition and comment your experience below…

Happy shopping friends!

For the Shorties

Vintage Vogue is officially accepting kid’s apparel! Exciting? We think so!

Our mini me’s need to be a great or even better reflection of us so they deserve the best. But the best doesn’t always have to cost¬†like the best.

After all, the way kids grow nowadays..they’ll wear those brand name sneakers three, maybe four times? We also pride ourselves in great parenting, showing them morals and values that will¬†make them capable adults.¬†Why not show them to love the¬†earth and recycle? There’s also a great lesson in being¬†frugal and not viewing¬†gently worn clothing as the plague that should be avoided at all costs.

There’s no doubt about it.. the¬†art of consigning and shopping consignment is a useful habit that will stay with your children for years to come! Come by to Vintage Vogue today and bring your little one too to start teaching them just one more of your many valuable life lessons.
