Need To Edit Your Closet?

Hello Beautiful Ladies!! There is something you may not know about your closet…but your clothes need BREATHING room!!! They told me ūüôā

No matter the size of your closet, you should be able to see every item without rummaging! Really…you should! A good rule of thumb that I use is: Consider donating or consigning anything you haven’t¬†worn in the past year.

But sometimes, we can be at a loss for what we should keep and what we should toss.¬† So, I’m going to share the very same tips that I will be using tonight on my closet…Let’s get to work girls!

What to Keep:

  1. ¬†Wardrobe Basics: These include your best winter jacket, favorite blazer and “still in high-quality” staples.
  2. Event Dressing: You should always have a stunning LBD (little black dress) or pantsuit that fits you like a glove.

3.  On-trend Items: These are the fun pieces that give your wardrobe personality and help bring your basics back to life.

4. Investment Splurges:¬† We all have at least one piece we’ve splurged on.¬† Whether it was an impulse shoe, or the leather jacket that was a must-have,¬† we all need confidence-boosters in our closet! (See our blog¬†on Why¬†Confidence is always in)

5.¬† And lastly, we have the “Sentimentals”:¬† This might be your first Designer handbag or your grandma’s ring, they’ll always be in style and have a great story to boot.

Now, we have come to the harder part… what to say goodbye to…

  1. ¬†Get rid of anything that has tags and you haven’t¬†worn it in the last 6 months, odds are you won’t.
  2. You really don’t¬†need multiples of specific items. Unless you regularly use a uniform, you don’t need 5 of the same things in your closet.
  3. Why keep items that just don’t¬†fit right. You will feel better knowing that all the things in your closet are comfortable¬†and actually allow you to breathe. Send the rest to consignment or donation, depending on the condition.
  4. Well loved items can be let go, really! If your favorite tee has seen better days and it makes you look like 90’s grunge, let it go and gain some needed space in your closet. No one needs that style coming back again ūüôā

Okay, these are the tips I will be using, hope they help you gain control of your space again and feel like the empowered woman you are!

Enjoy your closet cleanse!

Kentucky Derby on a Texan Dime

kentucky-derby-fashion-f05b5a7744cd3202The Derby itself, I can’t say has or will ever interest me much, but the sheer femininity¬†of the fashion sported at this occasion¬†is too much not to blog about! It’s all so Southern Belle and¬†very refreshing!¬†Maybe not as everyday fashion of course, but it’s fun to play dress up every now and again and pretend you’re¬†off to meet¬†Mr. Rehtt Butler. Am I right ladies?

Some may choose to have a Kentucky Derby themed party or simply decide to dress up for any special occasion. At any rate the hat is definitely key. Stated directly on the official site are some interesting pointers to achieve a flawless look.

Dress or Hat –¬† Which Comes First?

You can exhale – there are two answers here!

Some will say that you absolutely get the outfit first. Then you design your hat to go with the outfit. (The argument here is that it‚Äôs easier to custom design a hat than to ‚Äúmake‚ÄĚ an outfit to go with a hat!)

Then there are those who say that you must definitely purchase, create or design your hat before picking out the outfit.

Most often in this case, matching the dress (or outfit) to your hat involves personal preference, however keep a few things in mind in getting dressed:

* If your hat is having a pattern party, keep the dress design simple. * If the hat is simple and elegant, keep the outfit simple also for a classy look. * If you want a funky outfit, keep it consistent and accent the hat most of all! * If you have long hair, showcase a ponytail slightly to side or keep it down to one side to highlight the color on your face.

Now we did say this was Kentucky Derby on a Texan dime so to keep the outfit under a certain budget you may want to visit your local consignment store to find a hat. It doesn’t need to be flashy because you can always¬†create an elegant¬†hat using materials from around the house and garden. Not to mention make a visit to your local craft shop for your decorating needs.¬† This will create a buzz with your friends and family, perhaps even win a contest at your local party.

Remember to wear fresh Spring colors and you will be the belle of the ball!

Shop Smart: Best things to buy during January

Living-Frugal-Loving-It-mdnLet’s start off 2013 saving smart and let’s make a resolution to not make unresearched purchases because there is truly a time for everything under the sun as¬†the wise King Solomon once said¬†(including making certain purchases) .

Treading away from fashion and consignment for one day,¬†let’s focus our attention to another love of ours and that is showing off our frugalness with great steals at retail locations. We all know what wonderful year round deals you can find at great consignment stores like Vintage Vogue but here’s a great list from¬† Yahoo’s Financially Fit blog that I wanted to share with you.

The BEST things to buy during January

Electronics

The International Consumer Electronics show, the world’s largest consumer technology trade show, falls in January. Here, manufacturers introduce their newest products from flat screen TVs to mobile phones and cameras. With new tech products soon to flood the marketplace, retailers will discount older models and place them on super clearance in January, especially if holiday sales were disappointing. “You’ll find many high-end models at lower prices than you saw even on Black Friday,” notes Dan de Grandpre, Editor-in-Chief of DealNews.com. TVs, specifically, often see attractive pricing this month, as the Super Bowl draws near. “In January, electronics retailers tend to focus on the Super Bowl buyer. That means that high-end TVs – larger screens, with features like 3D – go on sale,” says de Grandpre.

Recreational Vehicles

If you’re in the market for an alternative ride like a motorcycle, boat or even a convertible, January is a good month to drive a bargain, as showrooms experience a huge slump this time of year. Salespeople are¬†more likely willing to bargain. Check in with your local dealerships and ask about special offers.

Outdoor Gear

Except for items specializing in winter sports, camping and outdoor stores often see a drop in sales during the cold winter months, according to historical sales data collected by DealNews.com. This means you’ll find low prices on things like tents, backpacks, and fishing gear.

Bedding and Linens

January is also a great time to find deeply discounted bedding and linens, as some stores simply try to keep up with tradition. “White Sales” began in 1878 by Philadelphia department store owner John Wannamaker, who wanted to keep linen makers afloat during the slow, winter months.

Home Improvement Supplies

Also on sale during the off-season are materials and services related to home improvement projects like carpet installation, paint, and new flooring. Flooring, in particular, goes on sale this month because, following the flurry of pre-holiday installations and before the big tax rebate-buying season. “It’s true that contractors have a ton of extra time on their hands this month and could be looking to discount their materials or services,” says de Grandpre. “Start getting quotes now.”

Existing Homes

Speaking of home improvement, January is also a savvy time to shop for a new home. According to the National Association of Realtors, January is one of the slowest months of the year for existing home sales, with more families buying homes in the late spring and summer, closer to the start of the new school year. Cold weather discourages pounding the pavement so with fewer buyers on the market, you have eager sellers and far fewer bidding wars.

Happy shopping!
